Janet C. Scott | Atlanta Circuit, Post 36

Candidate Statement

May it please the State Bar of Georgia Atlanta Circuit members,

I, Janet C. Scott, seek your vote for the Atlanta Circuit, Post 36, Board of Governors position.

Remember the enthusiasm we felt as we raised our hands and took the oath as newly minted attorneys? We started our practice, working to make a difference in our communities. For some attorneys, that meant working in private firms; others went to work for public entities or hung their own shingles. No matter what type of practice, we wanted to make a difference. Now, I am raising my hand to make a difference and serve you, on the Board of Governors.

I am no stranger to serving with the State Bar and local bar organizations. Through the Young Lawyers Division as co-chair of the Aspiring Youth Committee (2008-09), my co-chair and I implemented the “Great Debaters” program for youth in the DeKalb Regional Youth Detention Center, employing the art of debate as a creative method of resolving conflicts. Through the years, whether speaking at school Career Days, or mentoring college and law students working to become attorneys, or serving as a parliamentarian for a nonprofit board, balancing the practice of law while volunteering has helped me make a difference in our legal profession.

Your Board of Governors work to supervise the affairs of the State Bar of Georgia. Specifically, the Board of Governors serves as your voice in making decisions that impact our legal profession. I am no stranger to service and working to make a difference; therefore, with sincere gratitude, I seek your vote to serve as your voice on the Board of Governors representing Atlanta Circuit, Post 36. I look forward to meeting you. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and support.

In Service,
Janet C. Scott
